Things to do in Newport

Speaking of 10 miles, Newport’s annual road race returns to Fort Adams on June 2nd showcasing a beautiful view for runners, and an inspiring spectacle for viewers. The 10-mile course follows beautiful beaches, famous gilded-age mansions, and beautiful private homes, culminating in a finish inside historic Fort Adams. Click here for more information or to sign up!

Swiss Village Foundation’s Visitor’s Day - Saturday June 8, 2019

Swiss Village on Ocean Drive is usually closed to the public, but one day each year they open for a free self guided experience of the 45 acre property, known previously as part of Jackie Kennedy’s childhood home, Hammersmith Farm. Today the SVF Foundation preserves germplasm (semen and embryos) from rare and endangered breeds of food and fiber livestock. Learn all about the importance of this specialized non-profit organization and their extensive preservation efforts. Audrain Auto Museum’s Cars and Coffee is also happening on June 8th- a chance to see some of Audrain’s impressive automotive collection and enjoy a morning coffee- 7am -10am at Marble House.

Newport Flower Show - Friday June 21 - Sunday, June 23

One of Newport's most popular summer events is back this June and themed, Audubon: Artistic Adventures. The Newport Flower Show will celebrate the life of birds on the front lawn of Rosecliff while decorating the mansion with outstanding blooms and seasonal varieties by accomplished vendors. Mixology Class - Every Saturday in June at The Vanderbilt

The art and science of mixing a good drink is available to you just a few blocks away at The Vanderbilt where every Saturday you’ll learn about your favorite cocktail. Weeks are themed beginning with Rum on June 1st! Sponsored by Rhum Clemente, taste your way through their rums, and learn what makes them unique. Aquidneck Grower’s Market- Wednesdays on Memorial Boulevard and Saturdays at Newport Vineyards

From freshly sourced sea salt, to freshly squeezed juice, the Aquidneck Grower’s Market is back and blooming this month with two opportunities to browse what’s local to our coastal town. Wednesdays on Memorial Boulavard catch vendors at the Farmer’s market from 2pm - 6pm and Saturdays at Newport Vineyards from 9am to 12:30pm. Newport Polo Series- Every Saturday at 5:00 pm in Portsmouth

If you’ve never been to a Polo Match, take yourself to the Newport Polo field, a 20 minute drive from the Inn to the neighboring town of Portsmouth for an evening well spent. Tickets can be purchased online with options for lawn and lounge seating. You can purchase drinks or bring your own snacks to enjoy the match! A full schedule can be found online here.

If you’re looking for a little more casual competition, visit the Newport Gulls online for a full season schedule of their home games at Cardine’s field. A true “take me out to the ballgame” experience with hot dogs and home runs, and all walking distance from the Inn. (we even have a few free passes at the front desk)!

We are loving Newport Film’s monthly independent film screening, this month featuring Maiden on June 12th at 6:30 pm at Jane Picken’s Theater. Maiden is the story of how Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World in 1989. An inspiring perspective on women’s equality and perseverance in the sailing world.

This month you can also take a behind the scenes tour of some of the most unique personal home gardens in Newport during the “Secret Garden Tours", recently highlighted in Conde Naste Traveler Magazine. Between June 14-16, 2019 self-guided walking tours in the historic point section of Newport will feature a dozen beautiful gardens with tours running daily from 10 am. until 5 pm and all proceed from the walking tours will fund educational and cultural programs for local schools. Trinity Church Strawberry Festival - June 15th

One of Thames Street’s most iconic locations, Trinity Church in Queen Anne’s Square is hosting a “Strawberry Festival” on June 15th from 11am - 5pm with live music, crafts, and of course lots of strawberries to eat and take home. A fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

June 20th welcome’s the first of many free concerts at Fort Adams. Known as “Music at the Fort” the Thursday evening concert series kicks off at 5:30 pm and features local food trucks, Newport Craft Beer and other refreshments available for purchase. For more information click here.
