Welcome May 2019! We are so excited to welcome longer days and new visitors in the coming months. May brings sun and rising temperatures here on the coast, a sweet reminder that summer is just around the corner. In April we welcomed travel writer and blogger, Jackie Gatley of ENJOYTRAVELLIFE, and we can’t wait to learn about some of her favorite things to experience around town. In the meantime, we’re rounding up our own May wishlist (including rolling around in the daffodils) for the month ahead! Read on to learn more…

Kick off spring at Newport Vineyards, just a short drive from the inn for festivities at their 17th annual Spring Festival. Expect live music, moderate crowds (advance tickets for Saturday are sold out) and the opportunity to stomp grapes, compete in a potato sack race and of course taste local wine, beer and homemade snacks from the Newport Vineyards kitchen. You can purchase tickets online or at the door!

With rising temps in May comes the return of one of Newport’s most popular pastimes, sailing! Get back out on the Newport harbor or try out a schooner sail for the first time. You can book a harbor cruise on the schooner Madeleine directly online…

Also returning for tours, May 8th is the Rail Explorers, a unique chance to peddle your way through Rhode Island’s lesser known scenic spots in Portsmouth, RI. Bring a snack, a camera, and a light jacket, and enjoy a morning or afternoon of light exercise, beautiful scenery, and a little bit of teamwork! Watch the video below to get a feel for the experience and let us know what you think!

If you’re in town on Thursday May 9th, you might want to experience an eye opening film hosted by Newport Film at one of Newport’s historic landmarks, the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The documentary film will be shown in the historic Casino Theater and features the life of Dr. Ruth Westheimer, a Holocaust survivor who became America’s most famous sex therapist. If you don’t catch the film, it’s still worth visiting the International Tennis Hall of Fame, with a beautifully renovated museum and lots of interactive exhibits to enjoy.
